strong man baby shower

This past Sunday, I co-hosted another baby shower with my friend Rachel for our friend, Carlye. She’s having a boy, but since she hadn’t chosen a name, we decided we’d call him Strong Man Morgan. We decided to make our invitations square and use these envelopes in red. We were lucky enough to have the invitations designed by Rare Assembly and love the way they turned out.

We created this bust using paper mache on a body form. I made the mistake of using a female body form…sooooooo he’s a bit chesty. Either way, I love him. I would have ordered THIS guy [from which I drew my inspiration], but he was expensive and would have had to be flown in from the UK.

We decided to go with traditional carnival food [not healthy] consisting of giant pixy stix, cotton candy, mini corndog bites, bubble gum, coca-colas, and pretzels. We lined my firepit with burlap and filled it with peanuts [not pictured]. To add a bit of health to the mix, however, we did assemble berry skewers and veggie cups.

My friend Ashley [Baked By Ash] made her famous butter cookies with barbell and mustache designs. They were gobbled up quickly. She also specializes in cakes and other delicious treats :)

For the cake, we decided to go simple. Carlye loves Publix cakes [so much so that she’d have them make her wedding cake]. Therefore, we had the sweet ladies at Publix make a simple white cake with no trim or decorations so we could top it with these adorable vintage circus animals. I love the simplicity of this cake – so sweet!

For decor, we used the tent we bought for Steeplechase because it was already a red/white stripe — perfect for a circus/carnival theme! This day was SWELTERING so have as much shade as possible was important. I brought out the tiger stripe rug to go along with the balloons and the animal theme.

We decorated the tables with this burlap fabric we found at Walmart that was covered in mustaches and top hats. We filled rose bowls with ticket strands and weighted the animal-print balloons inside.

Oh happy day!
